Skin Infection in the Hair Follicles

As the years go by and we mature as adults, we expect our skin to clear up from those unbearable acne breakouts. A lot of people believe that the best solution for this problem may be using products high in alcohol but instead “burn” the razor burn. Other mistakes that men commonly make are to use pore-clogging creams (probably thinking it will help smooth their skin).

It is also advised to use new blades that are sharp enough to cut the hair low enough without having to apply pressure to the skin which results in scraping the skin.

More advise for preventing ingrown hairs when shaving

• Shave after the hair has been wet for at least 5 minutes. Hair that is wet and full of moisture can be cut easily as it is more supple; dry hair can be strong and tough.

• To calm and soothe the face, men should shave and wash in a downward direction and not against the direction of the hairgrowth. This will also prevent shaving too close.

• Prevent ingrown hairs by avoiding repeated strokes over the same area, which can result in the hair being cut too short.

• It is recommended not to use double blade razors as the first blade cuts and sharpens the hair, while the second blade cuts below the skin level. The hair is left sharpened and jagged and it curls towards the skin and grows back down the follicle.

• Use a clean, sharp razor . Change blades every 4 to 5 shaves, depending on beard thickness.

• Use shaving gels , not pore-clogging creams or non-lubricating foams. Lubrication reduces the scraping action of the blade and allows it to glide comfortably

• Use a soothing aftershave, not alcohol! Traumatized skin needs to be calmed, not attacked with harsh chemicals. Anti-inflammatory and non-alcohol pore-clearing ingredients are a must.
